Office spaces with two antenna approaches

9 APs · 2 layouts · Predictive design

FEATURED CASE STUDY / PREDICTIVE DESIGN

Same building. Different antenna decisions.

The problem this design addresses

An office network does not have to use the same antenna approach at every position. The design must account for where coverage is needed and how each proposed antenna will be mounted and oriented.

What is in the design

This two-layout design contains nine APs: eight CW9176I units and one CW9176D1. The maps show predicted 5 GHz signal strength and distinguish AP models by color.

The engineering trade-off

A mixed-model design makes antenna choice part of the placement review. The question is how each proposed antenna pattern serves its coverage area. The drawings show the model mix; mounting and orientation still need to match the approved design.

What the client can review

The model colors, AP identifiers, and predicted coverage can be reviewed together. That gives the installation team specific positions and models to reconcile with the mounting plan and equipment schedule.

How to close the loop

Check the CW9176D1 orientation and mounting arrangement against the approved design. Validate coverage after installation, then assess roaming or application performance where those tests are included in the scope.

Career project by our lead architect while working through another organization. Published evidence: sanitized predictive layouts and AP model information. Post-install measurements and business outcomes are not included in this case study.
